The Late Donie O'Carroll Donie O'Carroll was born at No. 2 Convent St., Listowel on January 6th 1923. As a young man he played football with the Gleann Football Club and Listowel Emmets football club, both in Listowel and carried a love of the sport with him all his life. He travelled to England at the young age of 16 and from some time lived in South Hampton before moving to Dorset for the next thirty years where he took up a job working in construction. Donie never married but he loved living the bachelor's lifestyle and always tried to enjoy his life entirely. He was charismatic character who was well-liked and respected by all those who knew him. Family and friends have many fond memories and many colourful stories to tell about their dear, brother, uncle and friend. Donie stood at a generous height of 6'4" and was an engaging soul who lived life to its full potential. Those who knew him feel a terrible loss at this time and will miss him dearly. He had a keen interest in nature,especially wildlife and more recently became very partial to horse racing and spent a few weeks attending races. In the 1980s when in his 50s, he made the journey home as regularly as he could to visit family and friends, often travelling serval times a year. Donie is survived by his sister, Sheila who is now retired to Listowel, his brother Francis who still lives in Weymouth, many nieces and nephews, both in Ireland and the UK.
