Heffernan to meet Kerry players

January 04, 2008
New Kerry hurling manager Pat Heffernan will meet his players for the first time on Friday night. The former Limerick star's appointment won't be officially ratified until next week, but he is already looking forward to the new season and will outline his plans to his new charges at the meeting. A member of the Blackrock club in Cork, Heffernan was part of the Limerick team that lost the 1994 All-Ireland hurling final to Offaly in heartbreaking circumstances, and was dramatically recalled to the Limerick squad after an eight-year absence in 2003 by then manager Padjoe Whelahan. The former full forward has coached Limerick sides Murroe-Boher and Kilmallock, and last year he was in charge of East Cork outfit Bride Rovers. One of the highlights of his playing career came in 1990 when he captained UCC to Fitzgibbon Cup success.
