What does the future hold for Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice and the elder statesmen of the Kerry team following today's semi-final exit?

That was one of the topics raised in the 'The Sunday Game' studio and Pat Spillane answered: "When Fitzmaurice took over the team the future was very, very bleak and they got to an All-Ireland the first year, won an All-Ireland two years ago.

"What he's done has been brilliant. He's four years in charge now. He took on the job for another year this year, I can't see him staying on.

"I think the team needs rebuilding now."

Referencing last year's All-Ireland final defeat at the hands of the Dubs, Spillane continued: "So many lads said they'll stay on for the last hurrah and, unfortunately, the history of last hurrahs in sport doesn't make pretty reading.

"To be perfectly honest, Aidan (O'Mahony), Marc (O Se) and these boys, who were tremendous warriors down through the years, I think they probably stayed on.

"There's a rebuilding time in Kerry. There's brilliant footballers coming through but you don't make a new team over night. It will take a couple of years."
