Eamonn Fitzmaurice's 'rape and pillage' comments regarding Kieran Donaghy's treatment in Sunday's Division 1 final have left Philly McMahon scratching his head.

When asked about the Kingdom manager's after-match quotes, the Dublin defender told The Irish Daily Star: "I only got one chance to tackle Kieran Donaghy in the first half when the ball came in and he got a free.

"Apart from that, I don't know. I can't remember off the top of my head the challenges (Fitzmaurice was referring to).

"I might have been off the pitch at that stage. So, I don't know.

"This is a physical sport. You can't expect not to be challenged. And if he felt that was what was going on... well, that's his opinion."

He added: "He's a bigger target - put it that way. He's a bigger man.

"But, I went for the ball in the first half and the ref said I pushed him in the back.

"I had to take that. That's his decision that he's made and you just get on with it. I thought the referee (Eddie Kinsella) was very consistent.

"I just don't know any of the incidents that would highlight that. Maybe I wasn't looking at that specific player inside.

"I was marking Colm Cooper so I don't know what he's talking about."
