Carlow's Richard Coady believes that there are a lot of similarities between the Barrowsiders and Sunday's Leinster SHC Round Robin series opponents Kerry.

The Munster outfit make their bow in the Leinster SHC and are tipped to take one of the top two spots that would earn them a place in the quarterfinals.

Playing in Division 1B this year has certainly helped their cause as they survived in that grade and Coady told the Carlow Nationalist that Kerry are now in the place that Carlow were a couple of years ago.

"They are making strides that we were a few years ago and we have taken a back-step," said Coady who returns to the fold after completing a three-month suspension.

"At the same time, even though we have taken a bit of a back-step, as players we don't see it as having taken a back-step. We still think we should be where we were a few years ago.

"If we could go down there and get a win it opens the championship for us and sets us up. If we lose, it puts a bit of pressure on us so at the moment we are fully focused on going down there and getting a win."
