Fresh from his captivating interview on The Late, Late Show on Friday night, Pat Spillane has questioned why drug testing is tolerated by the GAA.

Reacting to yesterday's news that a Monaghan footballer tested positive for a steroid during a recent test and is currently under investigation by the Irish Sports Council's Anti-Doping unit, the outspoken RTE pundit told the Irish Daily Star: "I don't think players involved in an amateur sport such as GAA should be subjected to doping tests in the same way as professional sports people are.

"The players in the GAA are really only pursuing their hobby in their spare time and testing them is a joke, it is draconian.

"But the frightening part of it is that players could have their reputations brought into questions when I really don't think there is a problem with drug taking in the GAA."
