Anthony's determination and hard work was admired by all

Anthony Curtin was born in Clounmacon to a family of sixteen children. He attended Clounmacon national school and finished his education at this stage but it did not hold Anthony back in any way

He went on to play football with Clounmacon GAA in the 1950's and 1960's and his regular position was goalkeeper but when the team needed it, Anthony happily ventured out field. Retiring from play in the 1960's , Anthony stepped into the administration side of the club taking over as chairman. He held this position until 1994 providing over 38 years dedication to the club, During his time as chairman there were many positive changes brought to the club, the main one development of a new football field.

In the late 1980's he promoted a major fundraising drive and Anthony was the right person to be the driving seat. He was a man who was very up front, to the point where there were no grey areas involved in anything he undert.ok, and this attitude was the driving force which saw the fundraising reach places as far away as New York and London as well the local area.
In May of 1992 Anthony's hard work and dedication came to fruition with the opening of Pairc na nGael, a very proud day for him. He took over the position of field chairman and remained in that position until his sudden passing on Wednesday April 3rd.

Anthony was involved not only in his GAA but the local community centre and politics were also on his CV and his tremendous contribution to the north Kerry region will be sadly missed.
In 1999, he was elected to Listowel Urban District (now Town Council) on behalf of Sinn Fein and retained his seat in the two subsequent elections. After a very near miss in 2004, he helped raise the Sinn Fein representation to two members in the 2009 election when Tom Barry was also Elected.
Anthony was twice Mayor of Listowel in 2006/07 and 2010/11.
He survived by his wife Kitty, sons Tony, Denis, Paul and Gerard, his daughter Kathleen, daughters-in-law, son-in-law and grandchildren He will be sadly missed
May he rest in peace.
