The Rathmore club has been stunned by the death of one of its young stars.

Seventeen-year-old Chris O'Sullivan passed away at Tralee General Hospital yesterday morning after being fatally injured in a swimming accident in the River Blackwater on the Cork / Kerry border on Sunday.

A minor footballer with Rathmore, Chris had only just been cleared to play again after recovering from a serious knee injury.

On Sunday, he was with friends celebrating Rathmore's victory over West Kerry and had also attended the Ducon Cup final between Knocknagree and Millstreet.

Rathmore chairman Eoin Casey described Chris as "a very friendly fella who always had a smile on his face" while vice-chairman Donal Murphy added that he was "a lovely young lad". Tweet
