A hamstring injury has brought the curtain down on Tommy Walsh's AFL season.

The former Kerry star won't feature again for Sydney Swans after sustaining the injury while lining out against Essendon on Saturday night.

With team mate Sam Reid absent, Walsh had featured in two of the last three weeks and there were signs that he was perhaps about to establish himself in the Swans first team.

But his season is now over with the club's website reporting that the "horror injury" will require "a season-ending operation".

The former GAA Young Footballer of the Year - who is contracted to the Swans until the end of next year - is understood to have had his hamstring tendon torn off the bone.
