Power demands more from champs

Tipperary boss David Power wasn't entirely pleased with his side's Munster MFC first round victory over Kerry on Saturday night - their first on Kingdom soil since 1984.

The All-Ireland champions chalked up a comfortable 2-9 to 0-8 win, despite playing the last 20 minutes with 14 men after Kevin Fahey was red-carded. But Power was still of the view that they will need to improve to beat Cork in next month's semi-final.

"The win was paramount but I think the performance could have been a lot better," he said.

"In the first half we created 13 scoring chances and only scored two so we did not have to say too much in the dressing room at half-time because the players knew where they were going wrong.

"The lads upped their performance in the second half and the two goals killed off the game. We have a couple of things now to improve on because we know how difficult Cork will be."

His Kerry counterpart Mickey Ned O'Sullivan was offering no excuses.

"They were far more impressive in the physical stakes and they had four or five leaders who led," he said.

"Our leaders did not lead on the night, but having said that, we did not come out of the traps at all and I know that this Kerry team is much better than what they showed tonight."
