Johnny Glavin RIP

It was with great sadness that the family and friends of the late Johnny Glavin, The Village Abbeydorney learned of his death at the age of 63 years due to an illness he had borne with great dignity. He had three brothers Donal, Mike, Brendan, and a sister Han. Johnny passed away on the 16th October surrounded by his family.
Johnny Glavin was a great, fast and skilful forward over a long period for Abbeydorney. He was a player of great heart and fighting spirit, and gave his all on the field of play. He played juvenile in the late 50's, early 60's.
He was also an accomplished footballer, and won a St Brendan's minor championship in 1964. He won a junior hurling championship in 1965. He played with Kerry junior hurling team in the late 60's but knee and ankle problems curtailed his involvement with Kerry after that. He won a North Kerry Senior Championship in 1968, He played centre forward on the senior team that lost the 1971 County Final to Kilmoyley. He won a coveted senior championship medal in 1974.
Johnny continued to play senior for another ten years after that, and also worked in the development of the field and complex.
A very large guard of honour for Johnny by all his friends attended his removal. We would like to offer our sincere sympathy to his wife Mary stepson Mark and all his family
May the sod rest lightly on the gentle soul of this great Gael, Ar dheis de go raibh an anam dhilis
