O'Connor gets three more years

Kerry manager Jack O'Connor
Jack O'Connor has been handed a further three years as Kerry football manager.

The three-time All-Ireland winning manager received unanimous support to continue in the role at last night's county board meeting in Tralee. The appointment of former goalkeeper Diarmuid Murphy as a new selector was also rubberstamped. Murphy replaces his former county colleague Eamonn Fitzmaurice, who recently stepped down after two years of involvement.

Four-time All-Ireland winner Murphy retired from inter-county football last year, but still continues to line out for his club Dingle and figured prominently in their Kerry SFC third round victory over St. Michael's, Foilmore at the weekend.

O'Connor will immediately begin the rebuilding process which the recent All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Down showed is clearly needed. Under O'Connor's guidance, Kerry have appeared in four All-Ireland finals. They also reached the deciders in 2007 and 2008 under Pat O'Shea.

At last night's meeting, Kerry chairman Jerome Conway also confirmed the reappointment of Alan O'Sullivan as physical trainer as well as the appointment of Kerry hurling trainer Joe O'Connor as weights and conditioning coach.

Conway also paid tribute to the outgoing management and players for their efforts over the past two seasons, noting that it was the first August in a decade that they were 'idle.'
