Legendary commentator Micheal O Muircheartaigh has no plans to hang up his microphone, despite turning 80 later this month.
O Muircheartaigh, who has been commentating on GAA games for RTE since 1949, said yesterday: "I have no plans to retire at the moment anyway, but like everything there comes a time.
"I don't worry about these things. At a certain stage, I'll decide but I don't know when that will be."
Explaining his longevity, he continued: "I don't take myself too seriously and I don't think people take me too seriously either, which is the best way. It's a sport after all and it's fun and so on. One thing is you just have to keep talking, no matter what's happening."
Despite his Kerry upbringing, O Muircheartaigh says hurling has taken over from football in his affections.
"The game of hurling is uniquely Irish, it's a tradition that goes back thousands of years and it's as strong as ever at the moment. People like it, it's entertaining, you won't see it anywhere else.
"I come from Kerry and football is the game in Kerry, but I think hurling is a superior game to Gaelic football."
