O'Connor to stay with Kingdom

It is looking increasingly likely that Jack O'Connor will continue as Kerry football manager, possibly for another three years.

The three-time All-Ireland winning manager is believed to be in talks with county board chairman Jerome Conway with a view to extending his reign until the end of 2013.

Eamonn Fitzmaurice stepped down as a selector earlier this week, but it's thought Seamus Moynihan could replace him. Ger O'Keeffe will remain as a selector if, as expected, O'Connor extends his term as manager. An announcement is expected at the next meeting of the county board on Monday week.

It is believed that most of the Kerry players are committed to continuing providing O'Connor remains in charge. However, there are huge question marks over the future involvement of veteran defenders Tom O'Sullivan, Tommy Griffin and Mike McCarthy.

County chairman Conway said a short-term appointment would be in nobody's interest as a rebuilding job would now be required.

"We have some team building to do so we've got to put the right structure in place for that. We've still go the nucleus of a very good team, but we'll have to build around it," he said.
