Allman, Dermot

September 26, 2009
The death of Dermot Allman, of Frenchpark, Co. Roscommon on September 3rd, brought an end to a connection along with many friendships, which began in Causeway, where he was born.
Over the years he worked in different locations in his capacity as a bank clerk throughout Ireland, finishing in Roscommon. Dermot was born in 1938 to parents Jerry and Babs Allman, both teachers. He attended the local Killury National School and after furthering his education in Rockwell College, he joined the National Bank, as it was then called.

He worked in the branches in Charleville, Co. Cork, Killybegs in Donegal, then Castleisland and in Castlerea where he came to meet and marry Frenchpark native, Teresa Keenan.
Dermot subsequently left the bank and joined Irish Country Meats in Ballyhaunis where he remained until his retirement in 2003.
In his younger days he was an active sportsman, playing hurling with his native Causeway and later changed codes to rugby, playing with the local clubs where he worked, despite the strict enforcement of 'The Ban' during that time. He enjoyed the friendships he made in the different localities throughout the country and saw big changes in the commercial life of the towns he worked in.
His health deteriorated in his later years and he passed away in the County Hospital in Roscommon. He is survived by his wife Teresa, son Oisin, daughter Maureen, granddaughter Sinead, sister Kathleen and brothers TD and Denis.
