The late Cornelius Doherty, Tiernaboul, Killarney who was laid to rest in the graveyard at Killaha in Glenflesk last Monday was an outgoing man who had a huge number of friends in the Killarney area.

Cornelius, who was known as both Con and Nelius was aged 90. He died peacefully at his home in Tiernaboul on Friday, September 18th. His removal took place from O'Shea's Funeral Home to Saint Mary's Cathedral on Sunday evening.

Requiem mass was celebrated by Fr Nicholas Flynn, PP Killarney at 10.30am on Monday. Members of Spa GAA and South Kerry Independent Alliance provided guards of honour both days.

Con was born at Foiladown, Clonkeen, in December 1918. At the age of 16, he moved to Tiernaboul to live on the farm of his uncle, Mike Scott. He worked as a baker with TT O'Connor's now the location of Penny's in High Street, for 25 years and with Liebherr for 16 years.
Con and his wife, Mary (nee O'Keeffe) created a happy family home at Tiernaboul where they raised their daughter, Majella, who is married to Richard Fitzgerald.
Con was an outgoing, chatty man, who enjoyed a pint and the company of friends in Jimmy O'Brien's bar. He had a great affection for the Irish language and spoke it at every opportunity.
He was a very active member of the Killarney Trades Council during the 1950s and the 1960s, along with his good friend, the late James O'Donoghue.
Con was a member of the Spa/Lissivigeen branch of the Labour Party for many years. He was a member of the SKIA from its foundation in 1994 and served as joint honorary president, again with James O'Donoghue.
When the Spa GAA club was re-formed in 1966, Con was a selector of the team which won the O'Donoghue Cup, an achievement which gave him great satisfaction.
On his retirement from Liebherr he continued to work on the farm in Tiernaboul. Con is survived by his wife Mary, his daughter and son-in-law Majella and Richard Fitzgerald. and his nieces and nephews.
