Kennedy delighted with Munster triumph
July 08, 2009
Kerry minor boss John Kennedy has lauded his players following their Munster final triumph last Sunday against Tipperary.
The Asdee clubman watched from the sidelines as his side put in a superb attacking display which saw them emerge six-point winners towards a much coveted third Munster crown in four years.
"We have to be delighted with the win because we came to win a Munster title," said Kennedy.
"This is our third Munster title in four years and we are delighted with that. I thought that we played some great football but I suppose we should have been further in front at half-time.
"We had a lot of wides especially in the first-half but I think that our game plan worked because we took the game to Tipperary," he added.
After the game, Kennedy paid tribute to his players, in particular, full-forward/target man Damien Kelly, who he felt was a "focal point".
"Damien did his job very well and I thought that he was the focal point of the attack," said the Kerry manager.
"If we were unable to send in the ideal ball, we were able to float in the 50/50 ball into Damien and he could win it, and the likes of Ian Galvin, Niall O'Shea, Eanna O'Connor and Jack Sherwood were running on to it so he was a big player for us.
"I thought it worked well and it helped break their swarm defence but I thought it was a team game and we all worked hard for each other."
