Carroll philosophical over venue

Kerry hurling boss Mossie Carroll is refusing to make an issue of the fact that his side's Christy Ring Cup semi-final replay hasn't been fixed as a curtain-raiser to Saturday's Munster SFC semi-final replay in Pairc Ui Chaoimh. Instead, the hurlers' replay against Carlow will be played at what is certain to be a deserted Austin Stack Park in Tralee at 2.30pm (the football tie between Kerry and Cork throws in at 5pm). Consideration was given to the idea of playing the hurling game as a curtain-raiser in Pairc Ui Chaoimh, but it wasn't pursued as Kerry hurling officials were keen not to forfeit home advantage. Carroll was philosophical about the situation, being more concerned that while they are injury-free, a number of their players were recovering from the 'flu. "We don't have a great following anyway, but we might have got a bigger home crowd if the football game wasn't on," he said.
