Scott, Murt

July 31, 2008
The Late Murt Scott Firies and the Kerry community at large lost a very valued friend on Sunday morning the 27th of July with the sad passing of Murt Scott of Rusheen, Firies. Murt was well-known and welcomed far and wide and he was heavily involved in sport having played key roles for his beloved Firies GAA and Ballyhar Dynamos FC clubs. Murt donned the Firies jersey in his time and also served as their juvenile referee. He was heavily involved in the B team for many years and regularly travelled the breadth of the country bringing players home and back for matches. He was always the first to raise his hand when there was work to be done and was deeply involved in fundraising and pitch development- the resplendent current facilities of both Firies and Ballyhar owe much to his tireless efforts. Murt started work in O'Callaghan's Cycles in Killarney at the age of sixteen and was a familiar and welcome sight there for many years. For the past number of years he was just as a popular member of staff at D & U Plumbing. The greatest tribute that Murt would have wanted is the simple truth- he knew every young player stepping on and off the pitch by name and they knew Murt to talk to and knew that they were always welcome to talk to him. Removal took place from O'Connor's Funeral Home on Monday the 28th of July to the Church of St Gertrude, Firies. Requiem Mass took place on Tuesday with burial afterwards at the New Cemetery, Kilinare. He is survived by his father Pat, brothers Patsy and Christy, sister Hannah, his four nephews and his beloved nieces. May he rest in peace Courtesy of Kerry's Eye July 31st
