Kerry board want O'Shea to stay

September 23, 2008
Kerry chairman Jerome Conway is hoping Pat O'Shea will continue as manager next year, despite the Kingdom's defeat to Tyrone in Sunday's All-Ireland final. The Dr Crokes clubman's future is uncertain as his current term officially ended with the weekend loss. But Conway is hoping he will remain at the helm for a third year, having delivered the Sam Maguire at his first attempt last year. ""I'd be hoping he'll stay on," Conway said. "His one-year deal is up and we will be examining it again. He won an All-Ireland last year, got us to another All-Ireland final this year and took us to two other finals this year. He's an excellent coach and is very committed. He is still involved with the Munster Council but that hasn't been a problem and I don't think it'll be a problem in the future." Conway was unable to say for definite when the 2009 management team would be finalised, noting that the completion of the county championships will be the board's main priority for the next few weeks. "We'll let the county championships run on now for a while. We'll sit down when everybody is ready and finalise all our management teams. We've the senior hurling as well to finalise. We've the under 21 football, along with the minor and under 21 hurling to finalise. That'll all be done over the next few months."
