Nelligan rubbishes talk of dilution in rivalry

August 24, 2008
Former Kerry star Charlie Nelligan has rubbished the notion that the meetings of Kerry and Cork in football circles no longer heaves with passion and emotion. Ahead of the clash of the two sides in this year's All-Ireland SFC semi-final, the former top notch 'keeper disagrees that the age-old rivalry is beat. "I don't think it is in the slightest," says Nelligan. "We have a huge incentive to turn things around after losing the Munster final like we did. "Darragh O Se has a huge incentive after being wound up and put off in that game. Cork, on the other hand, still have to bury that Croke Park hoodoo and banish the memory of last year's final. "I think this has always been a terrific rivalry and there's another edge to it. We wouldn't have it any other way down here; we have great respect for each other. The rivalry defines us. It always has."
