Kerry minor manager Peter Keane has given a strong indication that he would be interested in becoming the county’s new senior football manager.

Keane has just guided Kerry to their fifth consecutive All-Ireland MFC title, his third in charge and his stature has never been as high in the county.

Since Eamonn Fitzmaurice announced that he was stepping down from the position in the wake of their elimination from the Super 8’s, the rumour mill has been in overdrive as to who will replace him.

However, Keane’s name has been consistently linked with the position and he told the Kerryman that if offered, it was a role that he would have to consider.

“Of course you would consider it if approached and that’s a nice way of asking the question. This is a huge commitment. This is something you’d have to stop and think about and see will I do this or who would I bring with me or whatever, but all of that is rubbish and I made up my mind that that’s all it was going to be until such a time as you’re asked,” stated Keane.

“And if you’re not asked, you don’t waste your time thinking about something. So you don’t know. I’ve no doubt that they probably have their mind already made up who probably is getting this and I don’t know, I’m only speculating.”
