Carlow manager Colm Bonnar is adamant that their NHL victory over Kerry will have no bearing on this weekend's Joe McDonagh Cup clash against the same opposition.

The Barrowsiders travelled south to take on Kerry in the second round of the NHL 2A campaign needing a win to stay in the hunt for honours. They produced an excellent performance on the day, recording a comfortable win before going on to gain promotion to 1B.

Nonetheless, Bonnar explained to the Carlow Nationalist that Kerry are a decent side and will be a threat to all counties in the championship.

"They have a very dangerous full forward line. Their ability to win high ball caused us trouble down there," said Bonnar. The only difference was intensity levels and that is going to be balanced out because when it comes to championship every player will give it as much as they can. I reckon this will go to the wire.

"Every game is tough. You could be in a final or you could be in relegation trouble. Tight margins could put you in one direction or the other. Just hopefully we will be on the right side of those tight margins."
