Brady beaten in hardball competition
May 13, 2008
World handball champion, Paul Brady from Mullahoran suffered a rare defeat in handball when he lost his senior singles hardball quarter-final in Mullingar on Saturday last to Mayo's Dessie Keegan. Keegan, a county footballer like Brady, eased into a 21-5 victory in the first match, but, second time in court, Brady produced his strong serving to level the scores with a 21-14 win.
However Keegan who won the 2006 title in two games against Eoin Kennedy in the final, eliminated Brady from the competition after a tough rubber game 21-13.
Brady is now back in the Cavan senior football panel for the game with Antrim on Sunday next. The player said: "I had a talk with a few people and decided to return to the football squad. It will be a very tough game with Antrim on Sunday. They must be disappointed at not getting promotion to Division 3, just as we failed to hold our status in Division 2 next season".
Brady's next handball action will be the defence of his US Open Championship title in Kansas next month.
In the junior singles round of 16, Cavan's Paul Fitzpatrick was unlucky against Meath star Brian Carroll.
Carroll won through after two tremendous games which went down to the wire.
