Handball: brilliant Brady breezes into another final

August 20, 2015

Ready to take on the world - Cavan's Paul Brady, Westmeath's Robbie McCarthy and Antrim's Aisling Reilly.

Paul Brady continued his drive for five with an emphatic 21-12 21-6 victory over Robbie McCarthy in the World Handball Championship semi-final in Calgary this evening.

The expected close contest never materialised as the Cavan man eased past his Westmeath opponent and into another final where he'll face the winner of the second semi-final between Cork's Killian Carroll and Diarmuid Nash of Clare.

Team Ireland captain McCarthy, who needed a tie-breaker to see off the USA's Sean Lenning yesterday, was never in it as the champion stormed into a 10-5 lead in the first game. Brady extended his advantage to 17-7 before wrapping up the opening game.

And it was all over bar the shouting when Brady powered into a 16-3 lead in the second game.

On this kind of form, it's difficult to see the Mullahoran man being denied a fifth consecutive World title.
