Four debuts for Galway

May 14, 2008
Galway manager Liam Sammon will hand first championship starts to four players in Sunday's Connacht SFC opener against Roscommon at Pearse Stadium. Defender Gareth Bradshaw, midfielder Mark Lydon and forwards Damien Dunleavy and Paul Conroy are all named in the championship team for the first time. Conroy, who has been named at left half forward, captained Galway to their first All-Ireland minor title in 21 years last September. Dunleavy has seen some championship action before as he came on as a substitute twice in 2006, but this will be his first time to feature in the starting fifteen. Newly-appointed team captain Padraic Joyce has been named at centre forward, with Matthew Clancy, Michael Meehan and Fiachra Breathnach making up the full forward line. Galway (SF v Roscommon): P Doherty; K Fitzgerald, F Hanley, G Bradshaw; D Meehan, N Coyne, G Sice; B Cullinane, M Lydon; D Dunleavy, P Joyce, P Conroy; M Clancy, M Meehan, F Breathnach.
