The late Michael Mitchell The untimely death of Michael Mitchell, Cave, Caherlistrane took place on Sunday October 21st, 2006 surrounded by his loving family. Michael had been ill for a time and bore his illness with great fortitude. We extended our sincere sympathy to his wife Nancy, sons, John and Joe, daughter Frances, daughter-in-law Pauline and Louise, son-in-law Darrel, grandchildren Mikey, Sarah, Cian and Aoibhe, brothers, sisters, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and a large circle of friends. Michael was a great family man who loved and adored his family and doted on his grandchildren. Michael was always full of life, a man of unlimited energy and a great conversationalist who had a great depth of general knowledge. He had a great interest in sport of all kinds. He had a great love for hurling which he had developed from childhood while growing up in his native Gortanumera in the parish of Portumna. His pride in his native parish of Portumna was evident by the great pleasure he took from witnessing Protumna win the All-IReland Club final in Croke Park in March 2006. After moving to the parish he took a great interest in Caherlistrane GAA club and was a very generous contributor to the club down the years. In Michael's earlier years he immigrated to England where he met the love of his life Nancy Browne. Michael and Nancy returned to Ireland and built a house in Cave where they reared John, Joe and Frances. They set up a business in Chaerlistrane in those early years, a business which flourished and is very successful to this day. Michael had a great business acumen and was a great salesman who was well known for the phrase "that's what they are all buying now". Michael's remains were removed from Glynn's funeral Home, Tuam to the Church of St Joseph & Mary Immaculate, Caherlistrane. his funeral Mass was celebrated by his life long friend from his college days, Fr Nicholas Murray after which he was laid to rest in Donaghpatrick Cemetery. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of The Tuam Herald 9 November 2006
