The Late Laura Madden The recent death of 17 year old Laura Madden, Gilroe, Tubber saddened the local community of Beagh and the surrounding areas. Laura was a very popular teenager and a member of a well-known local family. A pupil of Gort Community School, she had been ill for sometime. She took a keen interest in basketball, hurling, ceili music, the local hunt and was a champion dancer at underage level. Her interest in hurling made her a great supporter of the Beagh GAA Club and its hurling teams in the various grades. Laura's popularity as a student was evident from the attendance of all her school friends from Gort Community School and her local classmates who formed a Guard of Honour at her funeral. The huge corteges of sympathisers who attended her Removal from Dolan's Funeral Home to St. Anne's Church, Shanaglish and the Requiem Mass and burial, testified to the high esteem in which her family are eld in the area. Traditional singer Sean Keane, sang at the Mass and he was joined by Niamh Gantley and the local choir. Aiveen Anderson played the harp. Laura is mourned by her father, Brendan, mother Patricia, sisters, Yvonne and Sandra, grand aunt, Angie, aunts, uncles and other relatives. Courtesy of the Connacht Tribune 23rd November 2003
