Burke, Tom

November 30, 2004
The Late Tom Burke THE death has occurred at his home following an illness of Tom Burke, Lettergesh East, aged 75 years. Tom farmed all his life in Lettergesh, right up until his final illness and the care taken of him in his last days by his friends and neighbours was ample testimony that Tom occupied a special place in all their hearts. He himself was an outstanding neighbour, and indeed one of life's gentlemen. The deceased had a great interest in Gaelic games and was a fervent supporter of all Galway Teams and his local Renvyle club. His coffin was draped with a Renvyle jersey and a Galway flag. He attended many club and county matches over the years and as a deserved mark of respect, a minute's silence was observed in his memory at the Renvyle V Killanin game. Tom in mourned by his aunt Mary (U.S.A), cousins and a large circle of friends. A large crowd attended both the removal from the deceased's home to Christ the King Church, Tullycross and also the funeral to Tooreena Cemetery, reflecting Tom's popularity in the parish. May he rest in peace. Courtesy of the Mayo News November 2004.
