Galway to renew appeal for Leinster MHC entry

August 15, 2016

Galway's Stephen Molloy dejected after Tipperary score their third goal in the All Ireland MHC semi final in Croke Park.

Jeff Lynskey has called for Galway to be included in the Leinster minor hurling championship as a matter of urgency.

His call comes after the reigning All-Ireland champions were hammered by Tipperary in yesterday's All-Ireland semi-final. While their senior counterparts have been competing in Leinster since 2009, the Galway minor and U21 hurlers have been refused entry time and again.

A renewed appeal for Leinster entry is now expected with Lynskey commenting: "If you learned lessons from today and had a game to come back, I promise you they'd be a different side, but we haven't got that and we haven't had it for the last 30 or 40 years, even going back 100 years.

"The county board need to put pressure on the provincial council and the HDC (Hurling Development Committee) to say 'look lads', it's not good enough any more.

"It's not good enough that you're out in the wings, training all year long and the ratio of games is 70 training sessions for one competitive game - and then you're out. But look, hats off to Tipp, they were a super force today."
