Galway keen to move on

Galway hurling chairman Michael Larkin feels that the swift reappointment of Anthony Cunningham as senior manager sends out a positive note around the county.

Cunningham was ratified into the position just weeks after Galway had lost the All-Ireland SHC final to Kilkenny, which was unlike last year when many clubs objected to retaining the former All-Ireland winner, who got back in after winning a narrow vote.

This time, the Galway hurling board moved quickly to dispel any rumours of unrest and reappointed Cunningham for another term in charge.

Speaking to the Connacht Tribune, Larkin said: "The important thing was to do it very timely and quickly and get positivity out there so we could move on.

"I would say from the Hurling Committee point of view - and Galway GAA - we basically wanted to ensure continuity. Things go on and things move on quickly. There is a ten-week break to the inter-provincials which take place on the first week of December, while the first round of the Walsh Cup is on January 3rd. So, it was important to move quickly."
