Fitzhenry tips Tribesmen

Wexford keeper Damien Fitzhenry

Damien Fitzhenry is predicting Galway to upset the odds in tomorrow's All-Ireland SHC semi-final clash against Tipperary.

The former Wexford All-Ireland winning goalkeeper is anticipating a close contest at Croke Park and thinks that the edge lies with the Tribesmen.

"I think Galway might take it, it is going to be very close but Galway might edge it, they have had to be solid at almost all points this term because of the competition that is there in Leinster," Fitzhenry told the Irish Daily Star.

The Enniscorthy man, who lined out for the Slayneysiders 56 times in the championship, feels that this Galway side carry a threat which consists of more than just star forward Joe Canning, which could be a crucial factor for them against the Munster champions.

"I think Galway are a different, improved, team this year," he said. "We would have played them in a practice match this year and it was a huge game for ourselves and them and what I saw in that game was they are not actually relying on Joe Canning as much as they have over the last number of years.

"So now they have Joe (Canning) and they have those others who work really, really hard. Joe had maybe five or six wides of his own the last day it didn't effect the team, the team went on and I think that is a huge thing.

"I think for a number of years they relied on Joe too much and they didn't perform - if it wasn't 'The Joe Show', unfortunately for Galway, they ended up on the losing side.

"It is not the same this year, there is a huge outlet and that is the big plus for Galway this year."
