Galway forward Conor Cooney could miss the entire campaign after he suffered a recurrence of a foot injury.

The talented forward who was Galway's only All-Star nominee last year, missed all of Galway's national league campaign with a broken bone in his foot. He was due to feature in recent challenge games but was ruled out with shin splints and has now suffered a setback with the original injury.

Cooney suffered the setback recently and there are fears that he may not line out for Galway in the championship at all this year.

The St Thomas' clubman has been sidelined for a while now and Galway manager Anthony Cunningham is believed to be resigned to losing one of his top forwards for the year.

Cooney impressed for the Tribesmen over the last couple of years and took over the free taking duties when Joe Canning was out injured.

Galway begin their Leinster senior hurling championship campaign with a quarterfinal clash against Dublin at Croke Park on Sunday, May 31st.
