Cavan 0-12

Galway 0-10

Cavan eased their relegation worries by coming from five points down at half-time to beat Galway at Pearse Stadium.

Beaten by Down last time out, the Tribesmen looked to be on course for their third win of the campaign when they led by 0-7 to 0-2 at the break, but the visitors staged a stirring second half recovery to secure a crucial win. Super-sub Martin Dunne - who had a 28th minute penalty saved by Manus Breathnach - was outstanding as they regained parity before Martin Reilly's huge free helped sealed the victory.

With the wind to their backs in the first half, Galway led by 0-3 to 0-0 after 13 minutes thanks to two points from Paul Conroy and another from Michael Martin. Cavan introduced Dunne in the 23rd minute, and a few minutes later he had a chance to give them the lead from a penalty.

But Breathnach was equal to the task and the hosts tagged on three more points following that let-off per Martin (free), Damien Comer ('45') and Danny Cummins to lead by five at the break.

The Breffnimen, however, were a different proposition after they restart when they outscored a flagging Galway by 0-10 to 0-3. Niall McDermott and Martin traded points before the visitors kicked four in-a-row to leave just two in it.

Comer registered his third point in the 48th minute, but it was all Cavan after that as Gearoid McKiernan, Dunne (two), Tomas Corr and Martin Reilly landed scores to take home two precious league points.
