Galway's Tom Flynn is hoping new manager Kevin Walsh can teach him a thing or two about midfield play.

At 6ft 4ins, Flynn is expected to be a major player for the Tribesmen in the coming years and he believes Walsh's influence will help improve his game.

"Kevin can bring so much insight into what's needed to get to the top level," the Athenry man remarked to The Irish Independent.

"I know I can learn a lot from him. He knows all there is to know about midfield play."

Galway put up a credible showing against Kerry in the All-Ireland SFC quarter-final but Flynn - who scored a memorable solo goal against the Kingdom - acknowledged: "There is a gap but we're working hard to close it.

"Alan (Mulholland) left us in a great position to push on and hopefully we can do that under Kevin."
