Champions Corofin

October 20, 2014

Well it was just the eighteen points that separated the sides at the finish but having been flagged up so early in the season by John Mulhollands, Corofin are just operating on a different level to the rest of the clubs in Galway at present. They are already 10/11 to retain the Frank Fox next season. It's only two in a row but a dynasty could already be on the cards with the North Galway side. Yesterday saw St Brigids in Roscommon and Crossmaglen in Armagh clinch five in a rows in their counties whilst Portlaoise won their eighth straight county title which is a real indication how the professionalism that has entered Gaelic football is driving a gap at the top level in the club scene just like what's happening at Intercounty level.

Attention already now turns to St Patricks Day for all clubs concerned. Mayo champions Ballintubber will face Roscommon champions St Brigids in a real battle royale. Mulhollands cannot split them with both sides 4/1 for a Connacht title whilst Corofin are 1/2 outright having an easier route to the final. Corofin are in from 4/1 to 3/1 outright and are just behind Crossmaglen in the outright betting.

In the intermediate hurling championship, Cappataggle are now short priced favourites to go one step better than last season. Mulhollands are betting 4/9 last year's beaten finalists and Ahascragh-Fohenagh are 2/1. As for the senior hurling championship. We should be looking at a county final this weekend but everything is up in the air and Mulhollands have suspended the betting until the picture becomes clearer.
