Pearse Stadium out of action 'til next spring

Meath take on Galway in Pearse Stadium.

This year's Galway SFC and SHC finals will be played in Tuam Stadium and Kenny Park, Athenry respectively because Pearse Stadium is not in a position to host them.

The Salthill venue will remain closed until the New Year due to ongoing drainage works. Many followers of the Galway club scene are welcoming the news that the showpiece games will be played in Tuam and Athenry, which are the spiritual home of football and hurling in the county.

A statement on the Galway GAA website read: "At present a major development is being completed in Pearse Stadium involving remedial drainage work and upgrade of the pitch. When completed this development will result in significant improvements of the playing surface.

"At this stage it is likely that Pearse Stadium will remain closed for games until the spring of 2015. This is to ensure that the new playing surface has time to 'bed-down' and settle and that pitch maintenance programmes are completed."

Galway chiefs are confident that the Pearse Stadium pitch will be ready in time to host games in next year's Allianz Leagues.
