The next Galway football manager will be either Kevin Walsh or Pete Warren after they were the only two nominations received for the post that was vacated by Alan Mulholland last month.

The closing date for nominations was last Friday, with Walsh and Warren being the only names put forward by clubs. There was speculation that Padraic Joyce would be nominated by his club Killererin, but this never materialised.

Former midfield colossus Walsh, who managed Sligo for five years, remains the firm favourite to succeed Mulholland, but Warren will also have his supporters after enjoying club success in both Galway and Mayo.

He also served as a selector under John O'Mahony when Galway won All-Ireland titles in 1998 and 2001. Ironically, Walsh featured at midfield in both of those successes.
