Leinster move has backfired on Galway

Galway minor manager Mattie Murphy

Six-time All-Ireland winning Galway minor hurling manager Mattie Murphy has hit out at the county's decision to join the Leinster SHC five years ago.

Murphy believes the Tribesmen's rivals have benefitted more from their participation in the Bob O'Keeffe Cup competition.

"All we have done for Leinster is that we have gone into Leinster and we have fattened their coffers and the reality is what we have done is that we have given our opposition extra finance to turn around and whip us," he said to the Examiner.

"You tell me how much have we got out of Leinster since we joined, and what the other counties have got?

"Now I suppose a lot of decisions to go in there at the time were political but we still haven't got much in the political front either."
