Bermingham, Noel

October 11, 2013
Craughwell and its surrounds were deeply saddened by the news that one of its exiles, Noel Bermingham, had passed away peacefully at his home in Cheltenham recently.
Noel (aged 61) was originally from Shanbally in Craughwell and played minor and U21 hurling for the club in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Indeed, Noel was a substitute on the victorious 1968 minor team that defeated Athenry in the county 'A' final and lined out at wing-forward for Craughwell in the following year's minor decider - a thriller they lost 5-11 to 4-8 to the same opposition.
He subsequently graduated onto the U21 squad that won county 'A' titles in 1969 and 1970 - defeating Carnmore and Kiltormer respectively - although his finest hour, arguably, was when he tallied 2-2 in Craughwell's 8-11 to 3-2 victory over neighbours St Thomas in the 1970 South Board U21 Hurling Final.
Noel is survived by his wife Janice (nee Morrissey) - whose father John hailed from Moneyteige - daughter Siobhan and sons Neil, Stephen, Christopher, Kieran and John-Joseph, daughter-in-law Jenny, sisters Breda, Eileen (England), Kathleen (Athenry), brothers Eamonn, Michael (Shanbally), Sean (England), sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, relatives and a long line of friends.
The funeral service for Noel Bermingham took place at St Gregory's Church, Cheltenham on Monday while a memorial mass will take place in St Colman's Church, Craughwell this evening (Thursday) at 7.30pm.
