Galway boss demands more from forwards

Galway U21 football manager Alan Flynn wants his forwards to increase their work-rate in tomorrow's All-Ireland final against Cork.

The Tuam Stars man says his attack will need to provide greater protection for their defensive colleagues if the Tribesmen are to collect their second Clarke Cup in three years.

"The one thing we have to do is reduce the amount of attacks on our half back line," he said in the Connacht Tribune.

"Our forwards, I think, could have closed them (Kildare, in the semi-final) a bit more. In fairness, Kildare attacked in droves, they attacked in twos and threes, but I thought our forwards could have closed more. That's why work-rate is so important."

Flynn is under no illusions about the task facing his team.

"Cork seem to be strong at U21 level every year, and they're strong again this year. They've four or five lads who won a Munster championship the last three years. They're very strong round the middle, and the half backs, and they have six forwards that seem to be particularly dominant in their positions.

"They racked up a big score against Cavan early on and their use of the ball was good. Obviously, Cavan came back at them, but they held their nerve at the end to win it. They're going to be difficult opponents."
