Congratulations to Adrian & Paul Varley, Cathal Mulryan and the Galway u21 team on their 5 point victory over Kildare in the All-Ireland semi-final in Tullamore on Saturday afternoon. All three of the Cortoon contingent played starring roles in securing a place in the All-Ireland final on 4th May in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick where they will face Cork.
The Club would like to extend its condolences to the family and friends of Michael Leydon following his passing last week. A proud Dunmore and GAA man and author of the history of Dunmore McHales GAA Club, Michael gave us some valuable advice and material for our own history and spoke of his delight at being asked to attend the launch. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The u16s were unlucky to lose to St. Brendan's in their League game last Tuesday. They got off to a great start when Eoghan Fahy pulled on a loose ball and found the back of the net as Cortoon took a 1-5 to 1-2 half-time lead. St. Brendan's, however, took advantage of having the breeze at their backs in the second half and ran out winners on a scoreline of 1-11 to 1-9. Team: Damian Boyle; Tomas Nicholson, Patrick Fleming; Dylan Walsh, Padraig Neenan, Peter Clarke; Eoghan Fahy (1-0), Ross Holian; Liam Maloney (0-2), Martin Boyle (0-3), Stephen Murphy; Ronan Boyle, Dylan Lowry (0-4). Subs used: Jordan Rooney.
Allianz League Prediction Game - With just one round of the National Football League to go Derek Savage is in second place overall in the country, a mere 37pts behind the leader. The final round takes place in 2 weeks time when the 4 divisional finals will be played. Needless to say, Derek has walked away with the Cortoon Shamrocks mini-league with a massive 478 point lead going into the final round and wins €100. We wish him the best of luck in the final round.
