April 26, 2013
Galway GAA was plunged into mourning last weekend following the sudden death of Carna/Cashel footballer Daniel Conroy from a suspected heart attack.
The 23-year-old student teacher, who helped the South Connemara club to IFC glory last year, died last Friday morning. Poignantly, he was due to finish his training as a woodwork teacher in Limerick this week.
Daniel, who was expected to return home from Limerick for training last Friday, was a regular at corner back for Carna/Cashel. He won two Connacht Vocational School medals with Scoil Phobail Charna a few years ago.
As a mark of respect, Carna/Cashel have retired his number four jersey for the rest of the year.
May he rest in peace.
