Canning urges patience

Galway's Joe Canning
Joe Canning wants Galway hurling supporters to be patient with the new breed of Tribesmen.

The thrilling nature of last weekend's Division 1A relegation play-off replay defeat of Dublin has given the westerners a boost but ace attacker Canning is asking fans not to get carried away:

"We'll be looking for a bit of patience from everyone outside the camp and for them not to heap great expectations on us," the Portumna dynamo says in The Irish Sun.

"There are a few of us who haven't played with these younger guys before and it takes a while to get the right mix.

"It's a huge difference, really. I'm one of the elder statesmen myself now even though I'm still only 23. It's good, though, and has energised everyone else.

"There are 22 guys in the panel now who were U21 last year. It's a huge step-up for them to make, but it's one they're working very hard on."
