Sudden Death

Deep regret and sympathy have been expressed in the general Moycullen District on the recent sudden and unexpected death of Michael (Mick) Lally of Knocknacarra Park in Galway city and formerly of Leagaun, Moycullen.

The deceased who was always outgoing, friendly and sociable was a member of a well known and long established Moycullen family. He was especially well-known and respected in hurling and handball activities. He collected many titles over the decades with Cumann Liathroid Laimhe Mhaigh Cuilinn.

He won County senior hurling championship titles with city club, Liam Mellows and he was captain in 1970 when Liam Mellows had a big victory over Killimordaly in Pearse Stadium, Salthill.

He kept his interest in sport and all community activities over the years and he loved to talk about such happenings. His passing in such a sudden manner while on a trip to the United States came as a huge shock and it will leave a considerable void within family circles and in the community.

Reposing of remains took place at the St. Anthony funeral room in Knocknacarra on Friday evening before removal to the nearby church. The burial ceremonies took place to Rahoon Cemetery on Saturday following the celebration of requiem mass.
The deceased was son of the late Tommie Lally, who was widely known in hurling and community activities in the parish and his late wife, Mary.

The late Michael is survived by his wife, Brigid, sons, daughters, in-laws, other family members, grandchildren, extend family, relatives, and friends.
