Corofin's draw marred by brawl
August 16, 2010
Holders Corofin snatched a last-gasp draw with Caherlistrane in yesterday's Galway SFC quarter-final, but the clash at Tuam Stadium was marred by disgraceful scenes involving players, mentors and supporters.
Tomas Costello scored an injury-time free to earn a 1-9 to 2-6 draw for the three-in-a-row chasing Corofin men, but the game was overshadowed by a brawl 12 minutes from the end after Caherlistrane's Eric Monahan and Kieran McGrath of Corofin were issued with straight red cards.
Moments later, a row broke out on the sideline involving players, officials and supporters and the game was held up before order was restored.
The Galway football board are expected to investigate the matter.
In the other quarter-finals, Padraic Joyce's Killererin were also held to 0-12 to 1-9 draw by Moycullen, Barna defeated Annaghdown by 1-13 to 2-7, while last year's beaten finalists Mountbellew/Moylough overcame Milltown by 1-9 to 0-9.
