Kernan: Next three weeks are vital
March 13, 2010
Galway boss Joe Kernan is gearing up for what he describes as "three vital weeks", beginning with tomorrow's visit of All-Ireland champions Kerry to Pearse Stadium.
With just one win from their first three games, the Tribesmen need to take something from the meeting with Jack O'Connor's side if they are to ease their relegation worries.
"The next three weeks are vital for us," the Crossmaglen man said.
"Kerry this weekend will be tough. They looked like they struggled for much of their match against Derry, but once the 'Gooch' came in they clicked into form again. With Dublin and Derry to come too, hopefully we can put in a good performance on Sunday."
Kernan believes the early hamstring injury sustained by Sean Armstrong - which is set to keep him out of the rest of the National League - had a big bearing in Galway's defeat to Cork last weekend.
"I was very happy with how we started, but once Sean got injured we seemed to lose our shape," he remarked.
"It was a shame that Sean picked up his injury as he was captain for the night and had spoken well before the match and going in at half-time everyone was disappointed for him."
Apart from Armstrong, Kernan will also be without the injured Corofin pair Kieran Fitzgerald and Alan Burke for tomorrow's crucial tie.
