TUAM STARS
FOOTBALL
Our U-21 team play Ballinasloe next Sunday in the first round of the
Championship at Barnaderg at 12.00 noon with referee Gerry Daly on
duty. We urge all to go to Barnaderg and support the lads. Come on
the Stars!

SOCIAL
Our Club Social took place last Saturday night in the Ard RÌ House
Hotel. Club chairman Alan Talty welcomed all and thanked Kevin
O'Dwyer for doing M.C. on the night; John Heffernan for doing the
door; our sponsors Brian and Tommy Loftus for sponsoring the Club and
their sponsorship of the six-a-side tournament; all who helped out
with the Senior, Junior teams; the organising committee of the
Social, and Tom McHugh and the hotel staff for hosting us on the night.
Fr Stephen Farragher spoke on behalf of Archbishop Michael Neary
about the camaraderie and team spirit that sport brings. John Joe
Holleran, Football Board Chairman, our guest on the night, spoke of
the respect that Tuam Stars have in the county, and he went on to
present the Junior A and C medals and the Sweeney Oil League medals.
This year we had the inaugural Philip Joyce Memorial Cup for the
'Outstanding Contribution' award for distinguished service down
through the years, and it was won by Martin Mannion. This award was
presented by Geraldine Joyce who kindly sponsored a Cup in honour of
her late husband Philip, our former Club secretary and respected
clubman.
The Players of the Year were: Senior, Jamie Murphy; Junior A, Conal
Ryan; Junior C, Ger Cunniffe, U-21 Shane Curtin and Minor, John Ross
Bodkin. Barry Burke, captain of the Junior A team, and Alan Colleran
of the Junior C team presented crystal vases to Paul O'Rourke, Brian
Brady, Martin Noone and John Dooley in appreciation of their work
with both teams in 2009. After the awards were presented we danced
the night away to Stonelakes who kept everyone on the floor. We thank
all who donated spot prizes for the raffle.
