Cortoon Shamrocks notes
March 03, 2010
The new season had a winning start as our U21 team overcame Milltown in their 1st round match played in Dunmore on Saturday. Difficult underfoot conditions made it hard for both teams and a tight, tense 1st half saw both teams guilty of some poor wides. However they say goals win games. Adrian Varley got Cortoon's first goal, finishing to the net after a long range free from Michael Martyn caused trouble in the Milltown goal.
Jason Kelly netted a second late in the half after some good interplay between the Cortoon forwards released him one on one against the Milltown keeper who saved well from the 1st attempt but Jason gathered the rebound and finished well to the net.
Cortoon went in at half time 2-1 to 0-3 ahead. Milltown had to chase the game in the second half. This left gaps in their defense and Cortoon exploited those gaps to run out comfortable winners in the end on a score line of 3-10 to 0-4. A good performance from this young team but they will know the face a tougher challenge against Kilkerrin-Clonberne in the next round.
