Meehan on bench for GMIT clash
January 30, 2010
Michael Meehan has been named among the substitutes for Galway's FBD League clash with GMIT at Moycullen tomorrow.
However, the Caltra sharpshooter is expected to see action at some stage after recovering from a hamstring injury. Despite being only 25, he is facing into his eighth campaign with the Tribesmen, and his return to fitness is a timely boost for new manager Joe Kernan who continues to experiment ahead of next Sunday's mouth-watering NFL opener against Mayo.
Kernan has, however, included a number of experienced players in his selection, including Paul Doherty, Finian Hanley, Joe Bergin, Niall Coleman, Matthew Clancy and Nicky Joyce.
The in-form Tribesmen can afford to lose tomorrow's game against the students by a big margin and still reach the final.
Galway (SF v GMIT): P Doherty; J Murphy, F Hanley, D O'Neill; T Fahy, G O'Donnell, JP O'Connell; M Lydon, J Bergin; N Coleman, F Breathnach, P Kennedy; M Martin, M Clancy, N Joyce.
Subs: E O Conghaile, N Coyne, D Meehan, O Concannon, B Cullinane, M Meehan, A Griffin, C De Paor, E MacDonagh.
